18-year-old me when a virtual cat repeated what I said
Smartphones came out at a really weird time for me. I was too young to be able to afford one but too old for parents to think I needed anything more than a flip-phone. Meanwhile, kids 5 years younger than me were getting them by default once they started secondary school.
Managed to afford an iPod Touch eventually.
Edit: Not saying my parents owed me a smartphone.
You can be disappointed you didn’t get a smartphone while simultaneously not expecting one. Anyone who says different is too basic to have multiple feelings at once, or just an idiot.
The razor phone came out when I was in highschool, I didn’t like flip phones and when my parents decided to drop the land-line and go with a cheaper family phone plan I got a pretty simple brick that could play mp3s with a dedicated external speaker, and could tune into radio frequencies with headphones. I thought that was neat.
I got my first smartphone in 2013 or somewhere around there.
Kinda cool that your first one was one you procured for yourself though
I had my first (sort of) smartphone when I was 8. It was just €50 at Tesco, so yeah, I could save up for it.
Sort of - it was actually a 7" Android tablet with 3G modem that I used as a phone full-time. I still have the screen from it. I can’t believe how small that feels now. I mean, my current phone has a 6.7" screen, albeit not at 16:9. Still, I remember it feeling huge.
I guess I was just ahead of time.
Not me, my grandparents.
