I’ve been trying to post fairly often to this community in an attempt to keep it active, but I’m still trying to figure out what type of posts people want to see here. News? Recommendations? Discussions? Artwork? One thing I’ve been debating is whether people would be annoyed by seeing memes here.

I’m guessing if you found this community you already know what cyberpunk is. I don’t need to make any “have you guys seen Ghost in the Shell??” posts. But does that also mean this community wants to keep things serious and only debate obscure cyberpunk media?

I can keep posting random nonsense, I’m just not sure if there’s anything I should avoid posting. For example, aside from memes, does anyone want to see recommendations for cyberpunk music? Music is very subjective/personal so I don’t know how many people would appreciate my taste in music.

I’m kinda leaning towards “any post is a good post” since we’re still growing and I just want activity. But at the same time, there are definitely pictures from r/cyberpunk that I’m sick of seeing. Like the stupid R.U. a cyberpunk? picture from 1993.

Let me know your thoughts.

I agree. Memes are probably the cheapest content and I see enough of them everywhere else. Discussion, art, news, anything else mentioned is what I would like to see and interact with.

I share your conclusion that pretty much any cyberpunk related content is good to have here. I have appreciated your contributions, by the way.

Regular posting and commenting is what makes for a good community so I think that anyone reading this should try to help contribute to grow our community (and any other community of your interest too) without worrying too much about having the perfect content to share.

That said, if you do want my opinion:

My main concern is that I would not like to see this community dominated by a single type of content such as memes or images. That’s fine for communities that are focused on such content but I think that variety would be ideal here.

Memes, humorous images, and otherwise non-serious stuff are okay in small amounts and preferably when it is somewhat new and original. However, I also find that there are several that are so thoroughly played out that I’m sick of seeing those pop up again and again too.

So far I’ve been pleased to see that this community hasn’t yet been filled up with what I consider to be generic, uninspired cyberpunk images - the kind of artwork that it feels like I have seen it over and over even when it is new. Don’t take this to mean I don’t appreciate good cyberpunk art though.

Sharing music you enjoy is fine with me even if it is something that is always subjective.

Also I think that random “have you guys seen [popular thing]?” posts always have the potential to spark new and interesting discussions so I would never discourage those. I would like to see more discussions.

Recommendations, reviews, news, discussions, art, games, videos, and anything else relevant are all great to see too.

Special days for certain types of contents is one solution to what you bring up, but I think it needs to be in a space where there’s already a lot of content going on.

At this point i think anything you contribute will be appreciated, and the direction of the content will happen organically!

Please, no memes. It’s the one thing I’m not looking for on lemmy. A lot of communities that I would be interested in, I pass over because they would, or have, flooded my subscriptions with memes instead of the real content I’m looking for.

And that’s one of the reasons I made this post. I’d hate to drive people away due to too many low-effort shitpost memes. Plus, cyberpunk isn’t typically a silly or jokey genre so it doesn’t make much sense in the first place.

I’m sure we’ll get the occasional meme here but I won’t be posting any more of them. Thanks!

Yeah I mean I don’t want to discourage a really clever or original one here or there, but it’s one of those things that seems to take over wherever they’re allowed. I know some subreddits would only allow memes on one or two days of the week, and that might be a decent choice.

I would love a Solarpunk Crossover from time to time. I think both genres can support each other in a great way.

Some rpg content would be amazing to have, because the cyberpunk 2020 rpg has probably the most in depth world building out of every cyber to ever punk
