Elder Minipeeler decided to spontaneously clean his room today, mainly and noticeably focusing on purging old school stuff. Did a thorough job and I’m very proud of him.
In the meantime Miniest made a carrot cake, with very little intervention from me (gotta make sure the batter actually ends up in the cake tin and less in the mouth lol)
Gorgeous! Ask Miniest to send me some (if there’s any left).
You have an excellent set of Minipeelers there :)
Yummy. Cream cheese icing or lemon?
Cream cheese with a little lemon in it 😋
Delicious
Tell miniest that looks like an excellent cake :)
That is a most excellent cake. When is afternoon tea?
Saturday afternoon is the perfect time for “doing sweet fuck all”. This is my recharge time from the work week.
Sunday is for chores etc.
But Saturday afternoon is blissful nothingness.
Also I bought a pair of Carhart pants. The last pair lasted 5ish years. Heavy initial cost, but the saving is significant over time.
My chores are done for today. Finally getting some food then I’m doing SFA till my Geelong Cats play this late afternoon.
Almost feels like I didn’t get much done in the end and it’s Already so late.
Waaaaakkkkeeee Uuuuuup Everybody! Time’s a-wasting. Lots to do today. Big shop for bulk household stuff, market for fresh stuff (Preston), laundry, garden & a lunch appointment that I’m not altogether thrilled about. This afternoon I’ll probably dissolve into a puddle and rest.
After yesterday’s drama I’m just going to putter and chill.
cracks an eye I just did stuff yesterday
I have lots to do as well… Lots of NOTHING!
Have you tidied your room?
NUP AND I AINT GUNNA
At least remove the sneakers from under the bed. Before they get many days dead.
Here here
Was gonna go to CERES community garden today, but the weather is dodgy so no guarantee the market will be on.
My oodie has been donned, and escape room game has been loaded 😙👌
Ooh what game?
The House of Da Vinci on the play store. It’s an interactive puzzle, really pretty! And puzzling! I have discovered I may think too laterally, or not laterally enough 😂
Drinks with a friend, very lovely to see 💜 consumed some Guzman y Gomez and got a noice whiskey
What whiskey?
I shall judge the niceness.
Hobart Whiskey: Tasmanian Whiskey Liqueur, and Tawny Cask Finish. Also have some of their signature but haven’t cracked that yet
Edit: the signature is “American oak, ex-bourbon matured”
As a whiskey wanker, I approve.
Have been learning about cars the last few weeks as I’m about to buy something cheap.
Looks like the old reliable corolla is going to be the pick.
Corolla 4 life.
Can’t go wrong. I reckon the Hyundai i30 is a solid bet too…If I bother getting a car again a good ole corolla is high on the list.
Will suss it out, cheers!
I mean, the car I really want I might be able to buy down the track. But for now, it’s getting from a to b
Ugh, I hate that feeling when your ears don’t pop after a flight… but I’m glad I got some shut eye even though the person next to me had no concept of personal space. I generally avoid night flights for this reason even though flying during the day “wastes time”. Good night 😴
Gah. Lost the prelims :(
Going to bury my sorrow in something now.
Commiserations 🍷
It was a valiant effort at least. Great game
Considering he’s so small, Chook is an absolute pig. The MESS, my god
They flick the husks out of their cage!
There’s only 3 things in this world I don’t eat. Cantaloupe, rice pudding and porridge. Now I can add papaya to that list. Ick.
Sardines, anchovies and sardines.
Bullshit. Everybody loves sardines.
Fuck someone downed thumbed you too heh.
It’s a tough crowd in here
😂
I think we can narrow this down.
same
Same but add tuna.
Crunchy peanut butter. Tripe. Oysters. Not too keen on mussels anymore either. Sushi is fine but I don’t really like the soft squish
Edit: Durian. (Haven’t had the fruit but have had durian flavoured crackers.) Also I don’t like cantaloupe
I loooovvvve oysters. Straight up. Down the hatch. No lemon. No pepper and salt.
I’ll take your hand and join you…
None of them register in my brain as food.
Eggplants are my worst enemy. Makes me throw up.
Olives are next and then hmm anchovies?
You can definitely get bad eggplants.
Doubt it’s a coincidence it happened on 3 seperate occasions even when I didn’t know they were eggplants.
Balsamic vinegar, pickled herring and giardiniera
Papaya is great, but can be off putting.
Mussels in vinegar are weird. I’ll still eat them but they are chewy little fuckers.
endive, ersatz chocolate, tripe
I’ve never had tripe because my mother refused to cook it after growing up with it.
I’ve never knowingly had it either. Who knows what’s in a lot of foods? 😬
👀
sausages aka mystery bags
Yeah possible I guess
It’s very likely used in sausage rolls as of at least 4/5 years ago. The pale colour and lesser volume was a hint.
I didn’t mind though as if it was it disguised both the texture and the taste/smell that puts me off
Fair. Cucumber, olives, and coffee for me. Not that coffee’s a food, but people sneak it in.
I eat/drink these things everyday. Thanks for your courage though.
Cantaloupe, rice pudding and bread n butter custard 🙅🏼♀️⛔
Bread n butter pudding is alright. Just make that shit fancy.
good bread, good butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, sultanas soaked in brandy. ( How does that sound? )
Throw some berries in there and make the proper custard and you’ve got yourself a deal.
Son has recovered from COVID, only for the wife to be struck down.
No idea how I’m still avoiding it. Superior genes perhaps?
Or more likely my flu+covid shot I got earlier this year.
Some people apparently are just resistant to it. I still haven’t had it, and haven’t had a covid vax for a couple of years now. It’s been floating around at work on a semi-regular basis so I’m pretty sure I would have been exposed quite a few times.
We are strong. Everyone else, very weak.
We shall rule this realm and dance on a mountain of bones!!!
Dancing on a mountain of bones sounds like a bit of a risky manoeuvre. We survive Covid and die after tripping over a badly placed femur, rolling down the side of the mountain and being crushed under an avalanche of skulls.
Perhaps we can crush the bones and use them to create a nice, flat, hard-packed dancefloor instead?
Not a bad idea. Boil down the bones for adhesive to mix with the crushed up bones.
Either way, we’re fuckin dancing
Big News. An arrest has been made over the Easey St murders.
What a grub. I was aware of the murders but the details got worse as I read on.
I hope he either gets extradited or some more decent men than him have some strong opinions on what he did…
Fantastic news! So long and they finally caught that fuckup of a man
I first saw it on r/melbourne and now I think it’s been taken down. The mods are fuckwits over there.
Its on the abc justin website.
I got an art book with recipes for mixing colours. You have no idea what a help that is, and something that I haven’t seen before. It was pure luck I scored that at the op shop.
It’s so fucked you can’t share and archive resources. If it wasn’t a crime I would be a volunteer archivist scanning or photographing rare or important books and uploading them. Just so things don’t disappear when they go out of print and physical copies dwindle.
I’ve also missed out on getting the Morpho books because I didn’t want to click a random link on social media to download them and now they’ll be gone off the Internet Archive.
Open Library has scans of older books online.
Thanks, I’ll check it out
Just concerned about the direction of this… there’s increasing crackdowns on lower risk sharing and it’s affecting the grey areas I used to hang around
Hathi Trust also
Hey I ended up downloading infinity train. I can upload it to my google drive if you want to grab a copy.
Ah thanks, I tend to avoid pirating and downloading though.
I’m just looking at the worsening landscape of entertainment and information access and censorship… it’s the relentless corporatisation of the internet
In many cases you actually can scan things, and potentially share them. There are many loopholes in the Aust Copyright Act, and different ones in those of other countries. Your local library will have an ILL service, an academic library (if you have access) ought have an excellent one. There will likely be fees, but absolutely anything not too fragile to handle can be made available.
Sounds like a massive organisational job for someone like me who can barely run their own life. I’m more thinking about the things I already own.
The art books, a few computer books, craft and sewing books… growing up there was a classic recipe book called Australian Cookery and the Vogue Book of sewing but they may be gone now. I had some rare cds but one was lost in a hasty move and another was stolen 🙄
I’ll have to look at the laws but I’m so risk averse because I don’t have the money for a lawyer and would be hit hard if my internet was cut off.
I wish it was just legally ok to upload things to allow fair access and ensure they weren’t lost… culture, resources, basic skills.
Yes, resources and basic skills. Information on the internet is becoming less verifiable and influencers are gating stuff behind paywalls.
Dude, I work in this space.
Archiving? That’s cool!
I’m just saying I’m intimidated about working out the loopholes and the amount of organisation to do it in an informal setting. I’m caught in a space where I recognise the value but am struggling to contribute.
And criticising the way of things where corporations hoard like dragons
Otherside, I don’t scan, I write the code that lets you find they exist.
Many research grants now require the outcomes to be free and public. Open Access is growing, but somebody still has to pay at some point.
You’re doing good work.
One of my favourite scenes from The Time Machine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_ZfZaRCWTI and the talking books https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NRMYUpgyJ8
I think more important than accessibility is that people should want to read and write , accessibility will follow
I’m not sure about that.
With AI we’re about to have a lot of terrible books, shows and games released - and the talented people may be pushed out of the industry or forced to choose different careers in order to make a living wage. (I know there were SAG AFTRA strikes and now they may be fighting new disadvantages created by AI. Such as actors being pressured to sell the rights to their voice or likeness in perpetuity for a one off fee.) So while there may be content it’s likely to worsen.
The content also gets gatekept to ensure maximum profits, price hiked, and wiped out if the corporation feels like it.
And there’s less motivation for independent artists/writers to create or share as a lot of it is being stolen.
Not enjoying this direction.
If it was only a moral matter I would straight up pirate everything. Even provide. Since I lack the experience to know for sure that I’m avoiding the pitfalls (both legal and in terms of continuing internet access/damage to my device) I don’t. But I don’t blame anybody who does and consider it a service in media preservation.
These arseholes deserve it. A lot of stuff isn’t even available in any other way.
Edit: I watched the Time Traveler clip and am struck by the lack of curiosity there. That’s a danger too. AI may be used as a tool to the point people get too lazy to do their own thinking.
I left the ramen restaurant hungry. You’d think $25 would get you a decent sized ramen but no. Two tiny pieces of pork belly. And the broth was like chicken soup.
Which place?
Name and shame! 🔱
Shop Ramen. Been on my list to try for a while but it was very average and expensive.
Thank you!!
Unsatisfying ramen is a shame
You know you’re getting on when you plan to jump in the garden to weed for the 3rd day in a row and before you start first thing you think of is where’s the ibuprofen.
There’s stuff I want to do but I’m aware I might do my back
