    Makes you wonder what could have happened if most of the mods on Reddit hadn’t blocked all similar attempts under the excuse of “self-promotion”

      Banning all self promotion is usually done not to play favourites. It gets tiring being a gatekeeper so you just remove that variable. Mods should have been shepherding communities to alternative and open platforms themselves though.

        Indeed. I’m still regularly fighting with a country mod team because even though we offered them to because admins on our Lemmy communities, they still didn’t want to allow a single post about it. Ironically enough, they did the API 2023 strike, but it seems like they were never really interested in an actual alternative.

      Yup, we had an active and chill daily thread on reddit, but after pigboy pulled his bullshit we decided to move. Users specifically also reached out to regulars still on reddit to tell them where we all went
