Other than Smite, what video games have a lot of playable mythological pantheons? I already know about Megami Tensei, Persona, and Fate video games, what about others?
Age of Mythology, and Titan Quest 1+2 (spinoff by same devs). There’s a DS tactical spinoff of Age of Empires that’s not very good but worth trying. Torchlight might be similar to Titan Quest.
I’ve also been playing Saiyuki: Journey West (PS1) which is based on Buddhist/Hindu mythology. ‘Journey to the West’ also inspired Wu Kong, ‘Enslaved: Odyssey to the West’, and Dragon Ball series.
God of War (Greek n Norse), Darksiders (Christianity), Immortals: Fenyx Rising (Greek), Hades (Greek), Hellblade: Senua (Norse), Okami (Japanese), Folklore (Irish), Dante’s Inferno (Christianity). You’re not really ‘playing as’ myths but mostly fighting them in these series.
Okami is great
999
Since it hasn’t been mentioned, Okami. You play as Amaterasu, the Japanese sun god
Hades?
Sorta
Age of Mythology. It’s an RTS game from maybe 20 years ago, although there’s a remastered edition that’s less than a year old. I played the original version and the story and gameplay are both really fun. The controls definitely feel dated and clunky to me now though. I’ve not played the new version but I expect it’s good too.
Specifically, you can play as Norse, Egyptians and Greeks with three main gods and nine(?) minor gods from each pantheon. You build up your civilization / town over several ages, managing your resource gathering and armies. Each age unlocks a new god with a new god power. Each god also has different mythical monsters that you can create such as jackals, hydras, wolves, etc. The original also had Chinese and Atlantians (Greek titans) as DLC, I don’t know if they exist in the new version
Sakuna, of Rice and Ruins is about a goddess in a fictional but very shinto-adjacent religion in a country not quite, but not entirely unlike Japan. She’s the daughter of her pantheon’s God of War and Goddess of Harvests. She bashes monster heads and she sows rice, and both are important.
Fun and light-hearted, with a small cast of quirky likeable characters.
I guess Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines would count. It’s a turn-based JRPG for Vita, don’t know if there was any other releases. Your job is to manage a cursed Japanese clan where everyone lives for around two years, yet for some reason is able to reproduce with the help of Japanese gods. The pantheon is quite large, each god has certain elemental affinities and other interesting inheritable features.
There is Fight of Gods, a mediocre 1v1 fighting game (in the style of Street Fighter). Has a few pretty cool music.

Reminds me of War Gods. I played that a lot on PS1 as a kid.
Hehe. I never played War Gods, but always read about it. That game is more like Mortal Kombat in gameplay style, as it is from the same makers. Fight of Gods plays a little bit more Street Fightish, with its moveset and gameplay feel. And the audiovisuel styling is more like Soul Calibur, but not that good off course.
I’m a huge emulation and retro fan. Maybe I’ll check War Gods out today. :-)
puzzle and dragons as a mobile game revolves around that idea for its non collab content.
Spartan: Total Warrior from the PS2 & Gamecube was I think an underrated or missed gem.
You don’t exactly play as a lot of mythological things, but it tells a great story with action combat around a lot of really cool mythology. Some of the bosses were incredibly cool.
I don’t understand the question fully, but if you want to play a game with a complex mythological pantheon that affect gameplay based on who you worship, interact and fight with gods, aid someone into become an ultimate god, or become a god yourself, I’d highly recommend the rpg maker game fear and hunger 1 and F&H 2 : termina. I reckon the extreme difficulty isn’t for everybody tho.
