Ginger beer’s on special buy at Coles, 2 x 1.5L Kirk’s brand for $3.50. I grabbed a couple and am going to enjoy the sunset from the patio

I’ve developed a bit of a taste for ginger beer/ale recently. Just goes so nicely with the warm weather. The Bundy ones are my favourite, followed by Schweppes. Keen to try the Kirks

Edit: ive tried it, it’s not the best. It’s a lot “spicier” tasting than shcweppes ginger ale, and it’s been too long since I had a Bundy one to be sure, but I think it tastes spicier than that did too. I’m not really picking up on the ginger though. Plus the lack of a glass bottle makes it a lot less cool

My Nan and Opa brew their own. They would use old coke/lemonade bottles and store them in the bathtub for fermenting.

Many many times have they literally exploded (I was their for one and it’s louder than a gunshot)and rained ginger beer all over their bathroom 😂 but no commercial brand has ever ever been as good as theirs lol

Was meant to add, Bundaberg is the best commercial brand tho lol

Ooh, I might have to give that a go next year! I’ve gotten super into mead making tiktoks recently, and ended up purchasing a 1 gallon jug and air lock off Amazon, as well as yeast. Haven’t used them yet, but I reckon next year I might give that a go

I’ve also been interested in making kimchi and Kombucha (even though I don’t really like Kombucha) which I think are similar processes. Might need to add ginger beer to the list lol

My mum tried to brew her own and had the same result, so had to put it all outside. I remember being very entertained by the explosions as a kid, lol

Kirks ginger beer is a mixer - that is, it is intended to be diluted a bit. Usually by putting alcohol in it, but any liquid will do. 1 part extra liquid to 4 parts Kirks ginger beer.
