The original film was a rush job made by Quaker Oats to sell candy bars. Because the film just needed to exist it gave all the creative people involved free reign to do whatever they wanted. Gene Wilder accepted the role on the condition that he would walk out with a cane and do a somersault, demonstrating that Wonka is an unpredictable character who’s intentions we never really know. Ironically Quaker fucked up the recipe of the chocolate bars so they just melted before they hit shelves and were never released.
how about it’s Wanker and instead of owning the chocolate factory, Willy Wanker is a br*tish cop who goes around asking kids “oi, y’got a loicense for that chocolate, laddie?”
I have nothing against Timothee Chalamet but he’s clearly not right for this role, and it’s obvious that he was cast solely based on marketability and social media influence. I guess the studio didn’t think enough people would care about a Willy Wonka movie without shoehorning in some famous hotshot actor.
If they had to go that route it should have been Jeremy Allen White, he’s also hot right now and he literally looks like a young Gene Wilder.
Holy shit he really does
We already have movies of all the good Dahl books, we can stop! PLEASE!

Oof that looks awful. Paul muad’dib does not have the juice.
Its the same problem as the Jonny Depp film. The story is Charlie and the Chocolate factory but the 2005 and 2023 movies focus on Wonka instead. He’s supposed to be this mysterious whacko who does unexpected things, when you delve into his backstory it makes the character boring.
Willy Woke-a
I wontka be watching this movie.
I am tired of Wonka
why is the oompa loompa CGI
I’ve seen this a few times and even the trailer is enough to retcon the entire character of the original. What’s the point of an origin story with no emotional throughline to a recognizable character?
yes where have you been
