Over the weekend my wife snapped a few pictures of our 22mo running around splashing in a lake wearing nothing except a shirt and a swim diaper. My wife was quite taken aback when she uploaded the photo to Facebook, and had the picture removed for nudity / inappropriate content. We all rolled our eyes and figured this was just an overtrained AI being an overtrained AI, but it’s got me wondering - is this attire getting to the point at this age where it really is inappropriate, and I’m just too fuzzed out from taking care of babies to notice? Curious to hear ya’lls thoughts.

    Not inappropriate.

But sharing it publicly on Facebook? Inappropriate. Lots of creepos looking for new wanking material.

Share it privately with some friends or in private albums.

A private album is best. What’s appropriate for someone you trust is different with what’s appropriate to blast into the void.

Not inappropriate, but inappropriate to post pictures of your child online who hasn’t got a say what happens with their pictures.

On one hand, I agree with you, nudity is natural. On the other hand I’ve seen the kind of sick fucks that exist out there and I wouldn’t want a nude photo of my baby on the internet. So do with that what you will.

I agree. Outside of something like a family photo at Disney world with Mickey mouse I wouldn’t want my kid to be in media released online. If I had kids that is.

Unfortunately it’s the platform a significant portion of our friends and family are using that we don’t see on a regular basis, and if we want to be able to easily share our lives with them without resorting to long-form emails or letters, it’s a convenient go-to. At some point I absolutely have it on my to-do list to spin up a Diaspora server of my own, but until then our content would still have to be living on someone else’s server, and it becomes kind of an apples-vs-oranges conversation for which one would be better.

Not inappropriate. I wouldn’t even clutch pearls worrying about creeps on the internet. It’s a diaper and a shirt. That’s basically the equivalent of shorts and a T-shirt for adults. It’s exactly as appropriate as a fully clothed picture, because it IS a fully clothed picture.

My thought exactly. Even an adult wouldn’t be inappropriate in a bikini bottom or speedo and a T-shirt.

The clothing isn’t inappropriate but sharing the pictures of your child publicly online is clearly inappropriate for me.

Think about it, right now your child is 22 months old but soon he will be a teenager facing bullies in high school, soon after he will be a young professional looking for a job, he could be a lawyer trying to build up his reputation. The last thing he want is pictures of him running around in his diaper

Everything you post online will stay online forever, please don’t post any pictures of your child on Facebook or Instagram.

I think the ai just went goofy. If that was inappropriate then so would all of the swim suit picks posted. That has more exposed skin then a shirt and diaper. Swim or not.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the feedback 🙂

This has certainly given me a bit to chew on, so far as being more careful with our children’s digital footprint at this stage of life. We do ensure to tick the boxes for “only friends” on the pictures we share, but I am aware that once something is out there it’s out there, particularly as who knows what kinds of inner closet demons our friends have that they would never share with us. And just because I’m more of an open book kinda guy and haven’t minded at all when my own mom has shared old pictures of me as a toddler running around in a diaper, doesn’t at all mean my children will feel the same way. I’ll be sure to bring this up with my wife sometime sooner rather than later.
