I expect primary targets to be areas with the classically-homeless encamping and crapping on sidewalks. But law-abiding houseless folk could get caught in the net where local hardliners feel emboldened by the EO. As the saying goes “It’s not your fault but it’s your problem”.
Reminder: I maintain a list of cities with laws that affect vehicle dwellers.
There’s a line in there about ability to institutionalize (paraphrasing) anyone with a mental disorder they deem a threat to themselves or the public, regardless of homelessness. If they make being trans or LGBT+ a mental illness will they start rounding up gay people?
Yes. Probably not right away, but yes.
There it is, the second group of Americans to go on Zee Airplane or to Zee Swamp.
We’re so fucked bros…
That is a lengthy EO. Definitely designed to round up people as opposed to helping them.
I’m more concerned about the crime going on in board rooms.
what can we do to fight this? I keep thinking of that poem and i know they are coming for me but i don’t know how to help the immigrants and i don’t know how to help the houseless either. I’m afraid i’ll be arrested and put in mens prison if i try to help directly and that terrifies me. calling my blue reps doesn’t help. donating to the dsa didn’t help. I quit the dsa after the government told the psl to hand over their membership lists.
how do we help in a way that doesn’t kill us?
Mutual aid networks are your safest bet - they’re decentralized so harder to target, and you can help with food/supply distrbution, know-your-rights trainings, or just documenting police interactions from a safe distance.
i just joined my first one of those last week with some trans friends from rednote but we are very dispersed and it’s very fledgling but i’m sure i can figure it out for my local area. thank you for the advice im going to go look about right now.
