This is a sad story, reminds me of Jamal Wali, the Afghanistan man worked for USA, fled to USA and killed by USA police.
My take away is, as a non-westerner, regardless of your political view, never aid USA to go against your local govt even you don’t like them, otherwise sooner or later, you will have no place accepting you in this world.
