Star Trek went from embracing pacifism while displaying the workings of a utopian world
to embracing warmongering and displaying a miserable world.

And I will criticize Deep Space Nine for having started this.

But I guess it accurately reflects US culture
influenced by the ideology of the Soviet Union from the 20th century,
a “we can do socialism better than the Soviet Union” story,
to the China-avoiding-capitalist-embracing culture of this century,
where socialism is absent and a soft cyberpunk world embraced as inevitable.

STD and Picard look more like Mass Effect than STOS or STNG.

i hated section31 when they first did it and some part of me still does; but it did a lot to flesh out the fully automated gay space communism fairy tale.

But it shouldn’t be ham fisted like DISCO, it should be smart, changing minds is done in inches not miles. Yay for emotionally immature and insecure senior staff!

Some of the best Star Trek is when you didn’t know that it was making a political statement and it was thoughtful and thought provoking.

trek shouldn’t be about contemporary electoral politics.

trek has always (well, when abrams and kurtzman aren’t involved) been about social issues, which are only political because the kind of assclowns who would say “star trek shouldn’t be political” are still hanging around shitting up the real world.

trek shouldn’t be about contemporary electoral politics.

the tos episode “let this be your last battlefield” and movie #6 were both literally contemporary politics.

kirk plainly said that you must be from the southern part of the galaxy during a time of jim crow and segregation laws on several ballots in the south & southwest in “let this be your last battlefield”
