Zulip has a big jump, but worth pointing out that this is part of a wider trend, and other software has seen bigger jumps.

zulip is great, not really a discord replacement, they don’t have built-in streaming/video/voice but it’s a great chat server and seems like a very ethical open-source project with a backing business, I’ve got nothing but praise for them
It’s very commonly used in academia. (Well, I can only speak about math communities, since that’s where I have experience. I guess math people are usually more into FOSS than others in academia.)
Anyway, I love it.
Apparently no E2EE, so probably only a good choice for public servers
