This can only be solved in star citizen and their advanced bed cover physics system
Yeah doing cloth physics in this context is apparently really hard in game development
Cloth physics are basically a flat sheet of polygons that warp. Its doable it will just look really crap with severe clipping. For devs the effort to implement a thick bedsheet with weight and friction isnt worth it so rockstar will instead enforce crunch for shrinking horse testicles instead.
Only if the physics bug out and the covers go flying ragdoll style across the room.

The really detailed physx style cloth physics in Metro Last Light were pre rendered animations so it could be done that way
never stops being funny to me that this is such an issue and also that that issue has been solved by the charming janktastrophe: Deadly Premonition
Not to take anything away from Deadly Premonition (the 🐐) but that was only in one cutscene. The same technique has been used in Sims games since 2004 though
Like you don’t need physics, just have a big flat mesh that goes over the character model
