With a 100 bucks controller you’re the one who should be screaming if someone were to throw it.
Sounds a lot like a Wilhelm.
Sounds great until your toddler hears it and wants to hear it again and again
No kids
No kids
That just sounds great
I love little Easter eggs like this. I bet the developers were googling as they implemented it.
Giggling?
Ah yes what a typo 😆
when you pick it up it gasps in delight
They couldn’t have NOT done that and cut the cost a bit? What a stupid feature.
That 100% sounds like an Easter egg that a developer snuck in under the radar. I doubt it was an official feature that was developed.
Why does a controller need a speaker to begin with? Or, I assume, a gyroscope.
Gyros are incredible and it doesn’t have a speaker. The haptics motors make that noise by vibrating.
That is so much worse. They’re going to burn those out
You lack a basic understanding of how that works.
I don’t? I’ve literally broken one of them before… Run them too hard and the magic smoke comes out
this is a lie. linear actuators do not smoke during failure. the most common failure is a failure for the linear actuator carraige to move. the absurdity of your argument would be clear if you went off and learned instead of arguing.
The controller doesn’t have a speaker. The sound is produced by its haptic motors.
TIL, how cool. I never even thought about it not being a tiny piezo or something.
Uh. I think it does. You can page it in case you’ve misplaced it and it will ring.
Also, on/off sounds, etc.
No, it doesn’t. These sounds are all done by the haptic motors.
The og did all of that through haptics, it worked really well. don’t see cutouts in the case for a speaker and I didn’t see any mention on ifixit, feel like valve would have listed it in the specs.
Oh that sounds like a great way to burn them out!
Did that too an OG Xbox controller once. Makes this feature even worse.
I think you would break your controller from dropping it so much before the haptics became an issue.
If that were enough to burn out haptic motors, they would burn out after only a couple hours of use.
Running them hard enough to cause it to screech is not the same as regular use over a few hours. No
using linear actuators for sound isn’t that novel or crazy. it’s also not that bad at all for the actuators. you are just responding to everyone with “that doesn’t make sense to me”
well that’s cool, but it will make sense if you go learn.
Controllers have had gyroscopes since the Dualshock 3.
Well many controllers have gyros for aiming or stearing or whatever. It would be weird if it didn’t. The previous steam controller had probably the best gyro of any controller.
People use those outside of a wii game?
…yes? Is this comment from 2010? I feel like the gamer’s aversion to motion controls is an old topic. Breath of the Wild was what converted me to accept gyro aiming where possible.
The gryo is a big selling point
