How do you define a religion?

Is it just theism, believing that there is some god or gods that run the universe and you need to do their bidding? How about sun worshipers, or Unitarians? A definition wide enough to catch ALL religions would likely also catch D&D clubs, gyms, businesses and governments.

I agree that a significant fraction of the world’s pain, both contemporary and historical, is the result of religious nut jobs. But calling to make all religions illegal is calling for legal repercussions against people for the things they think. Thought crime is not a good look.

Better to just remove tax exempt status and other extra privileges and protections that religions are afforded, and force them to carry their fair share of the social load. Don’t protect their hate speech. Don’t allow them to dictate how others live their lives.
