We need to study women and spend on women’s research way way more.
- Did you know women are more likely to die in a car crash because the SRS isn’t designed for their stature, bone density and breasts? Did you know we still almost exclusively use male crash dummies in safety tests?
- Did you know that women are more likely to die than men of a heart attack in public? Not only are most people trained in first aid not trained on women (the dummies are mostly male), but there is a stigma about men “touching a woman’s breast” when you need to do CPR to save a life.
- Did you know there is very little research on male contraceptives? This puts the onus of long term contraception almost entirely on women. There is no pill or temporary contraceptive for men besides condoms, not because it is impossible, but because we didn’t put one to market.
Anyway, it does not surprise me that maternal mortality is “mysteriously” on the rise. No one spends serious money on researching this stuff.
