This is the second screenshot post today that asked why women used to have big hair and someone snippily “replied” that the hairspray is illegal now, which is objectively false. Only the CFC propellents are illegal. You can still buy a big ass can of AquaNet and spray your hair into the same big crunchy hairdo.
What are the odds of the exact same idea but with different photos and slightly different wording happening organically on the same day?
The scare quotes around “replied” are a little silly
I promise we didn’t coordinate that, lol.
you both work for big spray, dont you?
They think Lemmy is where it’s going to really take off again. Market research, or something.
i dont buy it… plenty of alt products. truth is; that shit is work.
I used to live near that lady. She was hilarious. I’d see her at the gas station occasionally. She would wear a shirt saying her catchphrase. I’m not certain she lived there maybe visiting people she knew but I saw her plenty of times. She was very nice.
Well one of the issues with having a classic hairstyle is you end up looking like your grandma, which usually isn’t the look people are going for.
Thing is, those photos are of Gene Tierney, a classic Hollywood actress who was big the 1940’s.
(I never understood why Rita Heyworth got a higher hotness rating, I think it was down to the films they starred in - Gene was stunning in Laura…)
No spray cans filled with CFC propellants at that time, she just had a glorious head of hair.
It’s Rita’s voice. Gene was pretty while Rita was sultry.
The cock whisperer, lol
Laura’s one of my favourite movies of all time! It’s so beautifully written and acted, with an amazing score by David Raksin! I recommend it to anyone who loves classic movies!
AFAIK hair spray was available after WWII so it’s possible that this hair is the result of spray cans.
Anne Baxter oooh my
Curlers are illegal?
Yeah. Thanks, Obama!
going to make a fortune analy smuggling curling stones from Canada.
🥌 👈
you might want to wash it thoroughly before using it.

Those just look like wet set curls to me.
Yeah this hair stile is still achievable today.
The ones with hairspray too, because you know, you can still buy it. This meme is just dumb and misleading
Fashion isn’t always about what looks the best on a person.
This is my favorite fashion story.
King Edward VII was at a country estate and decided to play tennis.
His valet pulled out his tennis outfit, but was shocked to find that there was a sharp crease in the pants from being folded so long. The King told the servant not to bother ironing the creases out.
The King went down in creased pants, and it’s been a sign of a well dressed fellow to have a sharp crease in his pants ever since.
supposedly the same Edward VII is the reason why the bottom button on a suit jacket is supposed to be left undone. he got too fat to fasten it, and the other men imitated that style
It seems to me that the age of the fashion icon has passed us by.
I can’t remember the last time I saw a lot of people imitating any star’s looks.
When was the last time there was a Rachel haircut?
Where did broccoli hair come from?
Kid and Play
Have you seen how the current king dresses? No thank you.
Back in the day, John Kennedy killed the fedora when he went hatless to his Inauguration. James Bond had a hat in the gun barrel sequence of Dr. No and had lost it by the time they did Goldfinger.
Miami Vice’s look was widely copied.
Like I said, I haven’t seen any true fashion icons in years.
Sabrina Carpenter curtain bangs
Funny thing. I looked her up and then realized she looked a lot like Sydney Sweeny.
edit = I didn’t do a deep dive, but from what I saw the two could swap outfits and 'dos without anyone noticing.
Not exactly iconic.
