    I have never encountered a city that loves the boot the way Ottawa does, although I guess Bellville gets honourable mention here.

    From the terms of use on the CAMsafe website:

    Voluntary participation in the CAMSafe program does not mean you are agreeing to share your video or any information other than your name, address, and location of your security and/or doorbell camera with anyone, including police. However, participants should be aware that participation in CAMSafe does not mean that you will never be required to provide evidence for reasons unrelated to the CAMSafe program (for example, if a Court orders you to disclose evidence in your possession).

    Let’s say you sign up and then refuse to give them the data voluntarily. They now know you have the data and can compel you, or the company that hosts the data to provide it.

    I assume that people who value privacy already avoid externally hosted services, but I wonder if those who self host are aware of the can of worms this opens. You can’t just delete it after the cops ask about it without risking obstruction or other related charges.
