The Minecraft subreddit won't be a source for official Mojang communications going forward.

Looks like for now they’re just going to use their own forums for updates and such. Would be cool if they landed on Lemmy eventually like the Star Trek subreddit did.

I hope more big names leave Reddit now. The MC devs are already pretty big, of course

Cool to hear! It’s a bit strange for them to officially be there anyway, when they definitely have the resources to simply run their own services.

Although sometimes it seems like they have their heads up their own asses with how some stuff is managed, it really shows that the devs care about the community they’ve built up

It’s a voxel engine. It’s not anything on it’s own, but it’s made to be extended with games and mods to become you want it to be. And if you play online, the server will send all of this to your client, so you don’t have to download everything it uses.

It’s also not a “clone” of Minecraft, it doesn’t try to be Minecraft. Well, one of the games people made for it does but the base game itself isn’t.

It’s been around for a long time, since around 2010.

Its not a cheap Minecraft clone, its a FOSS voxel game that attempts to replace Minecraft.
