LEMMY INNNNNN!!!
I joined this morning to get a little ahead of the curve.
There zero reason this place couldn’t replace Reddit entirely if people just give it a chance.
I really hope people don’t just drop it once the blackouts end.
I’m a fairly active and experienced
shitpostercontent creator on Reddit who will fully shift towards sole posting here (well, at Lemmy in general, across different “branches”) if things don’t improve there. Which, sad to say, looks increasingly unlikely. It probably won’t get as many upvotes, but that’s fine. Artists continue drawing even if their works don’t get much public appreciation, simply because they enjoy creating, and other creatives (e.g. meme-makers) like me are no different - upboats and engagement in the comments are nice, but most of the joy comes from seeing the final product just as one envisioned it in their mind. Of course, if it brings others joy, that’s a bonus.
Get enough of these people migrating over, and you have a small critical mass that will create sufficient content for lurkers to look and go “Hey, that’s something I wanna be part of.” Then “not being on there/in the know” becomes stranger than “being on there”, and… the Lemmy servers will probably buckle under the influx. Heh.
I have completely given up on reddit.
Long Live Lemmy
Artists continue drawing even if their works don’t get much public appreciation
They might cut off one of their ears though.
It has potential but the learning curve is starting to be a real drag for me. I’m confused by this setup in general and don’t particularly feel like getting a phd in lemmying just to shitpost, you know?
I’m still very new myself, so probably I’ve not yet hit the point in the curve where things get confusing. But it’s good to know that gifs work just fine.
I just don’t understand all these ‘instances’ or whatever. Do you need a separate login/pw for all of them? I tried registering for beehaw for example but it just sits there spinning its wheels whenever i hit submit. Idk I’ll give it a chance I guess but I’m pretty underwhelmed so far. I just don’t understand why a forum to shitpost needs to be so complicated…
You do not need a separate login per instance. You can make one login on one instance and communicate with all the others as long as the instance you are trying to communicate with is not banned by your instance. I can give further clarification upon request.
Thanks for helping, really appreciate it.
For example, beehaw looks like one of the bigger communities and this is the top thread right now, the reddit blackout megathread: https://beehaw.org/post/518246?scrollToComments=true
When I try to log in to beehaw with this redditrefugee handle it doesn’t do anything, just spins its wheels forever. When I try to make a new account for beehaw it just spins its wheels out again.
I still don’t really understand the different between lemmy and beehaw, and can’t really find that list of the other communities now for other examples. The other guy said all these instances are related so you just need one handle, but that just doesn’t seem to be the case, or I’m still misunderstanding.
Idk overall it’s just new and weird and scary but
Also I totally realize you guys are flooded with millions of new users overnight so there might be some technical challenges from that.
Think of it like an email address. Your Lemmy “instance” selection would kind of be similar to choosing to create an account on GMail. Even if your account is on GMail, you can still send mails to people on Outlook, icloud, and anything else, no matter which server you chose. Lemmy works similarly in a way: No matter where you created your account, you can interact with all instances. So I have an account on lemmy.world, but I’m commenting on your comment (you’re on lemmy.one), while our conversation takes place on lemmy.ml. And it should just work
Please let me know what areas you are struggling with and I’ll do my best to explain. I think the difficulty of Lemmy is being exaggerated and maybe if things are explained succinctly it will help the community tremendously. I will try my best.
Reddit has sucked since about 2016. I really hope most of Reddit stays on Reddit, and Lemmy can just be under the radar like Reddit circa 2012.
Kind of ironic from a six day old account lmao.
Yeah, I’ve hated Reddit for a long time, but didn’t know Lemmy existed until the article in Hacker News.
someone should host an instance on lemmy.in
definitely lmao

I was just thinking these reddit memes were getting a bit tired and then I saw this
I’m

Beautiful.
Thank you, it’s one of those moments everything when clicks together just perfectly :D
YES!
So many instances are far too small to scale rapidly against the waves of people…So there is probably going to be a lot of this going on. 😹
Needs to change alot tho.
Quality original Lemmy content.
Me right now, trying to figure this out lol
This was unironically me with Beehaw so I made an account on lemmy.world instead lol
Same 😀
Favourite post on all of Lemmy. Hands down.
This is me and I appreciate the refuge
As more and more subreddits close, no doubt that’s going to happen. 😆
My final comment was a join Lemmy link, so at least one of those people banging at the gates is my doing.
Lol nice
:D
“You son of a bitch, I’m in!”
