I’m starting to think maybe I shouldn’t have chosen to rely completely on MagSafe charging… (iPhone not charging because of high temp)

Something’s wrong there… I only charge via MagSafe most of the time and the phone doesn’t heat up at all, I do lie it on a thawing board overnight which acts like a heatsink

You likely have charge optimization and/or clean energy charging on. I turn both off

It’s the combination of StandBy display timeout set to “never” and what looks like constant MagSafe charging. They’re going to need that graphene heat sink system that’s rumored for the 16 or 17 Pro. lol

I have it set to ‘never’ through the night using AOD and StandBy. It contributes to ‘Screen Idle’ but not ‘Screen Active’ or screen time. I have 14PM so not sure if it is different on previous models if they don’t have AOD.

I wouldn’t think “never” is an option for models that don’t have AOD.

This is definitely a bug. I also use StandBy with MagSafe and this is not how your Activity should look at all. Regardless look into your case.

The iPhone does not heat up due to charging. You keep it in a hot environment, that’s the problem

It absolutely does heat up due to charging. Wireless charging is less efficient because more of the energy is wasted into heat.

False. Wireless charging regardless of method (qi or MagSafe) causes heat in the device and charging coils. This is part of the ecosystem, no way around it. It’s extremely inefficient.

I Am not sure if standby mode actually counts as screen active time, shouldn’t matter either way.

Do you have a case on your phone?

Do you use the Apple 20W charger?

Does your phone do any background tasks while charging? (Apart fro, standby)

I have a case, non Apple charger, and I don’t think it does any background stuff (maybe syncing photos to iCloud?)

You’re phone been on charge for nearly 22 hours bro. No wonder it’s hot mate. Looks like you just constantly have your phone on charge all time.

I use my phone on wireless charger in my car ash dashcam running camera 24/7 when I drive and car temp is around 21 degrees Celsius and not running hot at all. And I only wireless charge. Also have a case.

If I was you I would check what app is using so much power that it heats up your phone. Yes even on background some faulty app design can make your phone run hot.

Tbh, having the screen on the entire time the phone was on charge wouldn’t help. You probably have StandBy set to never turn off the screen. If that’s your personal preference then you may run into this issue often
