I can imagine the guy is tapping the same well of money Trump is. People who feel like they’re always under threat, who don’t care if they’re lied to, and get their news from Facebook or YouTube.

Quite honestly, although I can certainly see how bad a Conservative government would be (I remember Harper), it’s quite disappointing to see the alternatives.

It’s also dangerous for Canada’s democracy when the current “leader” is only there because the other choice would be worse. I really don’t like the Liberals and their hypocrisy. The Greenpeace environment minister and a government supposedly progressive pushing for pipelines and arresting people protesting it. The same greenwashing party that is making us the worse country in the world when it comes to reducing our gas emissions.

I can’t find any positive point to say about the Liberals other than, at least they are not the Conservatives. I don’t want to vote for ANY of these liars.

I didn’t vote at the last federal election and at this point, even “the threat of Poilievre” isn’t going to motivate me much.

Oh and about those electoral reforms to change FPTP, I’m sure if “we” “elect” the right party they will get right on it, this time. And then they will fix the reservations and help the first nations!!1! After sending the police to crush a few more protests against pipelines.

Sorry but pushing people to pinch their nose and vote ABC because they could end up with Poilievre is not exactly shouting “healthy democracy” from the start.

I agree with most of what you said there. We’re in a similar position to the USA where neither of the two parties likely to win are desirable. Many people voted Biden not because they thought he would be the best president but because they couldn’t stand for Trump being president.

Unfortunately, in our current political system, not voting IS a vote for Poliviere. It’s better to vote against the Trump-style narcissist than to not vote at all - and it doesn’t have to be a vote for the liberals. At the very least, you’re participating in your community and choosing the MP in your riding which has an impact on your community.

You can bet that all of the hardcore reactionists are voting, so people being apathetic and defeatist helps them.

I know what you mean but not really. I cannot vote for him even if I wanted to. And if I vote, it could end up helping his party anyway.

and it doesn’t have to be a vote for the liberals

At the very least, you’re participating in your community and choosing the MP in your riding which has an impact on your community.

That’s the thing. It doesn’t. And yes it has to be for the Liberals.

I live in Laurier-Sainte-Marie so my current MP is the wonderful Liberal “environment” minister Steven Guilbault. His closest opposition is Nimâ Machouf from the NDP. She wanted to close the bridges and isolate Montreal during the pandemic. Every interview I saw of her scared me. Then the next candidate is erhm… I don’t know their name… from the Bloc Québecois. Then very far behind you have the Conservatives “battling” with the Greens.

So even if I voted or not, you can be assured that the Conservative candidate where I live doesn’t even stand a chance. It’s a Liberal vs NDP race. And as I said, me voting wouldn’t help the Liberals anyway. My vote could end up helping the Conservatives by having the Liberal candidate potentially losing to the NDP candidate, weakening the Liberals even more!

          What a great system!
