Important to note that 92-98% of sexual assault allegations are true.
That is absolutely not what that says. That report only indicates that 2-8% are false. For the other 92-98%, there are two categories they are placed in, either true or inconclusive. That report doesn’t delve into those numbers at all. Given how difficult charges like that are to successfully prosecute I wouldn’t be surprised if a large percentage is inconclusive. That doesn’t mean it’s true or false and attempting to draw a conclusion one way or the other with that data is wrong.
I think that’s a great point and I wasn’t intending to misrepresent the data.
The point that I was trying to make is that it is relatively rare for false accusations to be levied and, in difficult situations where truth is difficult to ascertain, we should give voice to the potential victim.
How do you know it’s relatively rare when the data doesn’t give any answer to that.
Also while every victim should have a voice, we should never assume guilt by the other party either. It’s a fundamental cornerstone of modern society.
Well my two cents are that I fully support an in depth investigation to find out if these claims are true, and if it is true if there are any other potential victims and what systems allowed this kind of behaviour to happen. Unfortunately I am not for or against vin diesel until more evidence is provided. But I hope the victim gets all the help and support during this time and that she won’t face any backlash for speaking up.
Why does it take 13 years to come forward though? I don’t mean this in a way to disparage the alleged victim, but that’s a really long time. I’d understand a couple weeks, months, or even a year or two. But it seems really odd to way such a long time to come forwy. Why now?
Everyone’s individual reaction is different. They could’ve spent literal years in denial or shame or any number of things. They could just be coming to terms with it now.
Think about people still dragging around their childhood trauma and all that. It just takes time to process things, more so if society doesn’t really prioritize people talking about those types of trauma.
But, ya know, let the courts figure that out and all.
I also don’t have an answer why that long. That’s why I fully support an investigation, to find the real facts, like I said I need more evidence to make up my mind, did she falsely accuse him or did they cover this up and only now has she got the legal backing and courage.
She may have been financially pressured into signing an NDA at the time. California recently changed the law so NDAs can no longer be used to keep victims of sexual abuse from reporting the crimes.
I haven’t read that it applies here, but it is a possible explanation. Fresh out of college, student loans and fear of being blackballed in an industry that is very reputation-based, “shut up and take this money or never work again”. If this is what happened here, waiting a decade and coming forward after the law changed makes a lot of sense to me.
Hard read, not particularly or anything but jesus it is rough to think that people anywhere behave like that
Fucking rapist piece of shit. I hope he never works again and loses the lawsuit and dies penniless.
But I doubt it will happen because Hollywood is rotten to the core from the looks of it.
Well, we went from these assholes having a private club of sorts, doing this shit on the downlow almost as part of the business practice.
More and more of these predators are getting exposed.
We can hope the tides are turning.
This is better than silent suffering. Let’s purge.
While researching this I came across someone mentioning Paul Walker in a similar light. Dude was 33 and dating a 16 year old.
