The “Hunga Munga” or Mambele originates from Africa, and is a genre of knives which were used in both hand-to-hand combat, and for throwing over long distances.

    Did some light reading, looks like they’re originally from the Mangbetu people of what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo. But spanned as far as the northern sections of the Nile River in their use.

        The khopesh is probably older, if only because of how ridiculously early in human history the ancient Egyptians were. Several parts of Subsaharan Africa (especially modern-day Nigeria) developed metalworking incredibly early, but Egypt was millennia ahead of basically everyone except its fellow “cradles of civilisation”.

    Also used in the Buffy opening sequence. Also one of my favorite descriptions from the mall ninja vendor Museum Replicas Ltd ran something along the lines of “It’s meant to get bent if you hit something with it. You can just straighten it out.”
