Gnu coreutils are gpl, if I choose to write functionality compatible with coreutils from scratch in rust I can relicense that as I please (ie not GPL) OP is postulating the driver behind rust rewrites is not for the language features but to allow coreutils functionality to be relicensed as closed source software.

For painting bananas. I spend 3-5 hours most days actively interacting and bonding with my children across a variety of subjects - homework, music, their hobbies. An uninterrupted hour of personal time to spend as I wish outside of work, children, keeping house, eating and sleeping is frankly a luxury I rarely get.

My “internet time” tends to coincide with my toiletry habits, I’m not sure this is an ideal time to prepare bananas.

I’m busy spending my time doing stuff with my kids, working, fighting a losing battle to keep the house in any kind of respectable state, eating, sleeping and trying to squeeze in some time with my partner. For me steam deck has killed any notion of getting a gaming laptop. Decent spec laptop (7yr old though) which I rarely need to take anywhere, gaming desktop 5700/3070 and steam deck if I want to game. Though I’m not much into multiplayer. Tbh even at home I find myself on the deck more than the desktop for gaming these days.

Of all of those the Amazon thing is the only one I have a strong objection to. The rest I can’t say I’ve even particularly noticed the changes if I’m honest and most other Ubuntu users probably haven’t either. They seem to get a lot of crap for “doing their own thing all the time” which seems odd coming from the Linux community.

I came to Ubuntu initially because it was the new hotness, I’ve never really had an issue with it functionally in 12 years or so, so no real need to change.

Why not deb? Why not any number of other distros? I do run deb on my NAS as it goes and I’m not trying to stan for Ubuntu (honestly) but it gets a lot of undeserved hate. It’s not a super exciting distro or anything but it tends to work fine for me.
