Yeah the games from “elsewhere” I mentioned and possibly buying used were two ways I considered to A) avoid supporting Meta in any meaningful way and B) recoup some of the cost.
Big fan of SBC gaming, open source engine recreations/source ports, gaming in general, alternative operating systems, and all things modding.
Trying to post and comment often in an effort to add to Lemmy’s growth.

just low-poly vertex-color stuff and tinkering in Godot
Very cool. Love to see stuff like that. Reminds of the console homebrew demo scene
I would consider the index as well if it wasn’t nearly double what I was hoping to spend
Considering it came out in 2022 that seems like a really short period of attention from Meta. I wonder if they’ve improve on working out the software for their newer headsets.
I’ve had a fair amount of #fun with Luanti (Minetest). It’s an open source game similar to Minecraft. The only downside is if you are expecting a nearly 1:1 recreation of Minecraft with the same features you’ll have to do a bit of modding.
That said the game has a really rich modding scene and from what I can recall the modding process was quite easy.
I’ve heard about that as well but if that is the case it seems strange to me that WiiUDownloader would still be recommended considering what the GitHub page says
WiiUDownloader is a Golang program that allows you to download Wii U games from Nintendo’s servers. It provides a user-friendly GUI built using GTK to browse and download Wii U titles directly to your local storage. Additionally, it supports decryption of downloaded contents for use on your Wii U console.
Also in combination with it being the recommended solution on the megathread and it not really being an issue cited under the issues tab.
I get you. I’ve been going through a lot of “best of” lists for various consoles and it’s tough going back and playing them because they were obviously made for a younger audience and and having never played them as a kid I don’t really feel the same pull.
The Kirby games are a big one. I’ve seen a lot of recommendations but can’t really get into them.
Have you tried the mouse and keyboard mod for GoldenEye? I imagine it makes everything incredibly easy but it could be different enough to justify a playing one more time
Having to rely on reading and retaining information in manuals is a big thing that keeps me away from a lot of DOS games
I was considering playing Warframe a while back because I was a fan of Dark Sector but the reviews I saw online mentioned an incredible amount of grinding. Do you think it’s worth picking up for someone who isn’t into that kind of thing?
You don’t think they could take down one?
Why is that?
I mean the kid in the sixth movie lit someone on fire and hit someone in the head with a pool ball. I feel like there’s some competition.
Do you know how much replacing the screen would cost? I feel like last time I needed to replace a phone I was using for a couple years it was unfortunately cheaper just to get a new one. Felt pretty wasteful
Have you ever tried Morroblivion?
Stardew Valley. I was a big fan of Harvest Moon FOMT and kept hearing that I should play it and when I did was I blown away. It felt incredibly similar and 90% of the time I thought “It would be nice if this is a feature” it was
Thank you!
It may have to do with the application used to flash the SD card. Here is a comment from /r/Powkiddy
So I flashed the RockNix one more time. Maybe third one was the charm. Also realized that I got a v2 of rgb30 and did a tweaking which they posted at their github pdf. I got my ssid but never seen connected to wifi this time. OK. I tried the old “factory reset” thingy and voila! Device is just froze at the scumm screen after the bootup. Hard shutdown and open again, its working but still no wifi.
So I considered my other options on firmware, which is ArkOs. So I watched a video about it, decided to go with it. When I opened the ArkOs wiki, it says “DO NOT USE BALENA ETCHER WITH THIS IMAGE. There has been reports of various strange issues and inconsistent performance using Etcher for this image.” Wait, what? I was using Balena for whole of those images. OK. I downloaded another usb formater Rufus. And then while waiting for huge ArkOs download to finish, I decided to flash RockNix one more time but this time I will use Rufus…
I did…
Did a factory reset, all good, didn’t freeze after the boot this time.
Enabled network, backed out, but still no “wifi is on” message… But at least, it found my SSid.
Wait! It even connected to internet after inputting my password! What?
Yeah, RockNix is working after I flashed it with Rufus. Really? I never thought that would effect on something like this. Dunno what happened.
The TLDR is Rufus worked instead of Balena Etcher.
Appreciate it!
That wouldn’t be much of an issue though if I was plugging the headset directly into a USB C port on my PC though would it?
Same. I feel like Valve handled the Steam Deck really well with it’s specs/price point and their community support. I imagine their next headset will be a continuation of that for the most part but I feel like it’s going to be even more expensive than the Index and targeting the high end market
