Lindsay Graham was one of the biggest creeps in American history, and that’s saying something. He was a closeted gay man, in an old fashioned “southern-gentleman-confirmed-bachelor” archetype, and it seems to have played into his this weird psychology. There’s this seeming self-hatred that turned into depraved bloodlust and lust for power. No love in his life, no boyfriend, no husband, just a series of encounters with male sex workers interspersed amongst a lifetime of spreading horror and destruction all over the world. A similar thing was going on with Roy Cohn, where closeted-but-not-really gay men also act like these sadistic arch-reactionaries and navigate it to political power. It’s so disturbing.

I would put Peter Thiel in the same category, except he’s open and comes from the California tech scene, so there doesn’t seem to be this element of self-hatred born from navigating classically homophobic social circles while still flaunting his sexuality.
