A terminal browser is something you use. A headless browser is something which either another program uses or which uses itself.

Depends.

• Chawan has experimental JS support, if I remember correctly.
• ELinks used to have a patch that enabled JS.
• Browsh and Carbonyl support JS, but they’re running headless Firefox and Chromium, respectively, under the hood.

I love it!

Here are three sites that will make your life a whole lot easier:

• DistroWatch.com - This is basically a database of various Linux distros, BSDs, Unices, and other similar OSes. It’s a good way of looking into a distro before installing it.
• DistroChooser - This is a basic quiz that suggests Linux distros for you.
• Linux Hardware - This is a database of hardware. I use it to check driver support before buying a new machine. It is hosted in Russia, though, so be careful.

If you or your dad are new to Linux, don’t bother with DistroWatch or DistroChooser just yet; go for Linux Mint.

I started my Linux journey with Mint on a ThinkPad T400 back in 2019, and now I’m one of the few people in my university writing Bash scripts without using ChatGPT. This shouldn’t be a flex, but it is; and I owe it to starting with Mint.

• mpv should work with any video platform supported by yt-dlp.
• Haruna is a pretty good Qt frontend for mpv.
• You can use an RSS reader or something like pipe-viewer to manage your subscriptions.

Obsidian is proprietary, but I’ll look into Open Desk.

I trust Mullvad with my card number a lot more than Amazon, and I did mention that I would have paid with Monero if only I had any.

As for Posteo, great experiences all around. It mostly just gets out of your way and, unlike more popular providers, isn’t always telling you about how great it is. However, the SPAM filter could be better.

I use that too, and I also still have Libre.fm.

So far, though, I just haven’t seen any reason to stop using Last.fm.
