AI enables the hubris that you can be an expert in any field. I use it daily, it gives you just enough info and knowledge that you feel that, right before it makes a huge fucking mistake.

That’s all this is, these people gain the arrogance that they can simply pick up another field. Same as management and executives. Anyone working with AI daily knows that’s all it is.

Does it help? Sure. In the hands of a capable engineer who knows what the hell it’s doing. In the hands of some entry-level or non tech person? Horrifying results and pure arrogance.

Logged-in users create posts, comment, subscribe to communities, and develop habits that advertisers value. Logged-out visitors often arrive through search, consume a single page, and leave.

Except for the 90-9-1 rule. Of a user base on average 90% will lurk/vote only, 9% will comment, and 1% will post. So it doesn’t matter if it’s a small percentage of your total users, if it’s a good chunk of the people who post and comment you’re fucking yourself.

Nah, it won’t matter. Even if they only operated in China it will be huge. China has a huge need of chips themselves, as we saw the the underground markets to import around US tarriffs. Suddenly they have their own supplier which will probably undercut the others in there since it was partially paid for by the CCP.

So there goes all of China, and now there is a huge overabundance of supply because they aren’t selling to them anymore. So they can either try to ratchet up the prices, knowing that CXMT proves its not worth it and the underground chip market reverses now out of China, or they start actually competing.

That’s the worst case scrnario right now, and even then that would be temporary. No matter what more comoetition is going to drive down prices. They know it, it’s why they are locking in 5 year price deals now while prices are high.

Google switched a lot of free things to a monthly subscription, and their remake of Google health is indicative of more to come. It’s enshittifying fast, I wouldn’t.

I think so too. Maybe it will turn out fine, maybe not. Personally I’ve been looking at git histories and waiting a month or so before getting excited, just to see if it will pan out.

Correct, and again, I’m someone who uses AI, I’m not one of the ones who are purely against it. The definition what what I’ve both done and seen:

• Using LLMs to code - fine. It’s a tool, use it as you’re saying. This is not what I’m talking about.
• Using LLMs to vomit out all of your code into one commit is vibecoding. It’s clearly vibecoding when there weren’t even multiple commits. No trial and error, no refinement, just one giant dump.

I do care how it’s coded because it shows how well it will be maintained into the future. If someone uses LLMs over months to build something it will probably be maintained. If someone vomited out all of that code in one vibecoded session, it’s very likely they’ll be bored and in a month it’ll be abandoned. That’s what I’m looking at, because tests can be automated now.

Maybe I’ll be wrong and in a month they’ll have committed hundreds of times and are trying to mature it. I have no evidence of that though, so there is no reason I’d risk trying it out.

Making your own and creating it is great. Maintaining it for years its great. Its why there is so much respect for other projects. You can see the months and years of dedication right in the git history.

Vibe coding something and trying to be on par with the other projects is hubris. It’s assuming you can do a better job than the groups and maintainers with an AI tool. Then to make it worse, it will probably never be updated or maintained. That’s why I and I assume others dislike it. It’s minimal effort with the arrogance on top.

Like I said. I enjoy vibe coding things. I’ve done a few. However I don’t go and pitch them as alternatives to well known OSS projects, because I know my vibe coding could never compare.
