  • He’s changed his mind. At the end of the day he does seem like a committed academic (even if he’s a bit uh… slow) and has realised that his theories on the “End of History” and the like were plainly incorrect. He said the following in 2018:

This extended period, which started with Reagan and Thatcher, in which a certain set of ideas about the benefits of unregulated markets took hold, in many ways it’s had a disastrous effect. At this juncture, it seems to me that certain things Karl Marx said are turning out to be true. He talked about the crisis of overproduction… that workers would be impoverished and there would be insufficient demand.

That said he’s still a lib, and a #slavaukraine lib at that; he even met with the fucking “Azov Brigade” fascists.

  • It’s astounding how literally everything he said as “color” is not true. Like, not a single one of the things he said are even remotely true or relevant.

    1. The United States plainly does not have control of the Strait of Hormuz, as if it did there would already be “pre-February 27 Freedom of Navigation,” so he himself has already negated his first point (not to mention the dozens of Iranian ships that have been able to successfully run the blockade per https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2026/4/30/tracking-the-shadow-fleet-how-iran-evaded-the-us-naval-blockade-in-hormuz)
    2. This one is partially true, but there’s been a dollar shortage since the beginning of the year which was engineered by the United States (and which Bessent himself admitted to creating! https://xcancel.com/militerenstitu/status/2020077436000461023) so this isn’t anything new and certainly nothing the “Iranian Leadership” is unaware of.
    3. This one, as far as I can tell, is not true at all. Haven’t seen much reporting out of Iran since the internet ban, but Iran can refine its own gasoline so I can’t imagine there’s any serious gasoline shortage. Food as well is unlikely, Iran is pretty food secure. Maybe this one is “true” because Bessent never says that it’s about Iran, and there are 100% gasoline and food rationing “in place” in various countries around the globe because of the war, many of which are “American allies.”
    4. Plainly untrue. Even the PM of Germany is on record saying the Iranians have “humiliated” the Americans and that the war was stupid and unjust.
    5. you sure about this one buddy? doubt

Plus the idea that Iran’s leaders are “trapped like drowning rats in a sewage pipe” rather than pretty cozy in one of their numerous missile cities, massive complexes build into mountains of granite with electricity and plumbing and hell probably cinemas for all we know, is patently ridiculous. An embarrassing post from an embarrassing man.

  • What’s funny about this is also they’re shutting down the train station that serves this stadium for eight hours every match. Only ticket holders for this one match can use Penn Station. The problem? Penn Station just happens to be the most used train station in the Western hemisphere, with 500,000 (!!!) people using it to commute every day. No trains in or out except this World Cup train for eight hours on a random weekday. What are the half a million people who commute into New York City using Penn Station gonna do for those days? Who the fuck knows…

  • ??? The J50 and J36, both different sixth generation fighters being built in China, had their maiden flights in 2024. They exist. They’ve had half a dozen semi-public prototype flights. They’ll be put into mass production before the end of the decade. The F47, meanwhile, is only on paper. No prototype exists. No flight (scheduled for 2028). Nothing. How could the Chinese “copy” something that doesn’t exist?
