    This is clever strategy. AMPTP wants the strike to drag on. They’ve said they’re going to continue until people start losing their homes. Now, whether this is bluster* or not, they’re going to be in a really hard place if the only people making entertainment are independents, who are suddenly going to become the power brokers. And they’ll stay that way, too. If some indie studio manages to make a hit when nobody else could make a soda commercial, they’ll be revered even after the strike ends. AMPTP doesn’t want that, so this puts pressure on them to cave quickly.

    *It is. It’s so easy to punch greedy fucks in the wallet and watch them fold.

      To a certain degree independent filmmakers have already been in power positions, like A24, for make blockbuster money on lean budgets. They were set to become the future of cinema anyways.
