Video game voice actors are fearing that the ability for generative AI to replicate their voices may cost them work and, more fundamentally, control of their own voice.

There need to be laws to establish protections of voice work for this reason. Any commercial use of an actor’s voice should require compenstation.

        Ah, you’re right.

If an actor’s voice is being used for non-commercial reasons… on one hand it’s similar to using the game’s existing components to make fsomething that is definitely not for profit… that feels more acceptable.

But it unfortunately also proves to developers that they can it as an example of only needing a sample and some AI instead of paying an actor. And ultimately its’ still using someone’s voice. I feel like it would only be acceptable if the modder reached out to the actor and asked permission.

also Ubisoft seems to trying to clamp down on this particular mod, so at least they are… sort of dealing it it responsibly!

There are already laws in place concerning use of actos’ likenesses, but I don’t know if that would extend to their voices.
