Came across the little guy on the site for the Birds of Prey Foundation.

I’d never heard of the flammulated owl before, so I thought I’d share him. It’s one of a small number of migratory owls, going from British Columbia to the American Southwest to Northern Mexico.

They also seem to like living in old woodpecker nest inside trees, since they don’t seen to do any nest making of their own.
