No actually fmhy is technically a “competitor” to this community if you want to call it that. I personally think fmhy has a better megathread than this one due to it being updated much more frequently, but essentially both communities are similar.

Or, the two communities will start going into niches (like, one being more focused on movies and the other games)
And seeing as you can subscribe to both, I assume that these communities will assist each other.
The strength of federation is that you have no “one-true-community” anymore. If one gets sick (I.e. Reddit) you have other safe havens to take over
