I hear I just spent more money than is sensible on an experimental granular synthesizer from the Czech Republic called the “tempera”. it’s a pretty nifty piece of kit. It’s got an 8X8 grid of touch sensitive buttons. Each column is a track you load samples into. Then, you place “emitters” on the grid, and they use a granular engine to sample sound from that portion of the grid depending on a bunch of parameters you can modulate to create amazing walls of sound or rhythmic weirdness. It’s also got 16 voices of polyphony across four different emitters that can all have different settings, and can play up to 4096 grains at a time! It will pitch your samples up and down via MIDI accordingly. It’s freaking awesome.

    P.S. You guys are awesome.

Hardware granulators are sweet. I use a microcosm pedal with a few granular algorithms, but yours sounds extremely powerful. Worth the money you say?

I’ll let you know when it gets here, but it’s by the makers of the Vector synth, and that thing is just plain amazing, and they’re still adding features to it years later, so I imagine the trend will continue with this one. It’s made by two guys, and they’re quite active on the Discord server. Questions get answered, feature requests get acknowledged and actually implemented. I’ve talked to one of the guys a few times, and he even tried out a couple of my patch ideas!
