I saw the name, and this feels especially awkward because I’m trans.

It’s so weird seeing this slur, when I remember when the term originated as a self-identifier for the trans community on Something Awful (trans goons) way back in like 2009-2010. It’s like, the opposite of reclaiming a slur.
Also kind of confusing with current online slang as it makes it sound like it’s a trans person who likes to goon a lot.
Right? I can’t take bigots using it seriously. Like, you’re trying to be an awful person but you’re too scared to use the actual t slur so you just say the most frenworld shit ever?
I once saw a comment online where someone thought it was etymologically-related to “cartoon”, so I 100% believe there are people online who thinks that’s what it means.

Yup, basically a lifetime ago but I remember people in the old trans megathread feeling so clever about it.
