I’ve been using Globe@Home fixed wireless for my home internet since the height of the pandemic. It was serviceable, with bandwidth ranging from 5Mbps to 10Mbps. Enough for browsing, Youtube/Netflix, remote work, and the occasional large downloads.

But last night I got to test a 5G router with a DITO SIM and I was getting up to 600Mbps download in my area. I also tried my own Globe@Home SIM with the 5G router and surprisingly got a 5G signal as well, albeit at 40Mbps download.

Now I’m mulling if I should ditch the Globe account over a DITO account (with a plan that offers the same 5G router I tested) or if I should just go with my original plan to buy an open-line 5G router. I’m still leaning towards the latter, but there’s not a lot of choices for a good 5G router and they’re hella expensive.

Yund DITO SIM na pinahiram sakin prepaid. Pero yung sa site nila meron 990PHP/200GB data cap, and 1490PHP/Unli data. Yung router na nasa DITO site same dun sa pinahiram sakin pero open-line.

As for my Globe@Home plan, it’s just a 999PHP/120GB data cap that’s no longer being offered by Globe. Generally hindi ko naman nauubos yung 120GB so I have no real incentive to get a better plan at a higher price. Medyo wary din ako sa DITO kasi yung nagpahiram hindi rin sure sa coverage and hindi kami pareho ng experience sa bandwidth performance. It may have to do with saturation sa area and range limits ng 5G.

What 5G router do you have? I’ve been looking for one, but couldn’t find anything that was even close to reasonable in terms of price.

My Globe@Home router is just a generic 4G CPE they labelled as Streamwatch. But the 5G router/model I tested is called China Unicom 5G CPE VN007 which costs around 9K on almost every Shopee/Lazada store. I was also recommended a HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro 2 - Router it seems to be pricier and it’s harder to discern if the seller is legit. But yeah, most of them tend to be really expensive.

No issues ba when installing a new router? Medyo na intimidate ako before when I wanted to add a good router for my PLDT kasi you need to make their generic routers a bridge to the actual modem you want to use. I was wondering if this is the case for Globe, or any other ISP here?
