Given the events of “Picard” and the delays of the writer’s strike, it’s considerably less likely we’ll get to see our old Q up to no good. Natasha has the smarmy attitude expected from a Q, so why not? Certainly welcome to a relative unknown in the role if they can pull it off, but she gets my vote.
Make it Wil Wheaton.
He disappeared with the Traveller, and somehow got adopted by a Q, and worked his way up to full Qhood. And all he wants to do is fuck with smarmy captains.
“I’ve always wanted to say this… Shut up, Picard!”
With how much shit he’s been given in his personal life using that phrase, it would probably feel like the coldest beer on the hottest day.
And probably spawn thousands of memes
And he’s already perfected his “Evil Will Wheaton” persona…
He’s such an amazingly evil asshole in Dark Matter!
Hell yeah! This is the only answer in my mind, he would be absolutely perfect as Q 💖
A jealous Wesley God torments his half brother across the galaxy, yes please
oh my god this is brilliant. what if that’s the traveler’s whole secret purpose after all: he’s always been a Q that recruits people into the continuum in a much different way than our Q tries to?
Bring back his son he fucking killed it as a young bratty Q.
Suzie Plakson is still around too
Lady Q was fucking genius as well.
Always called her “Suzie Q”
Peggy Q would also have been acceptable.
He fucks up some situation, then conjures “Aunt” Admiral Janeway to fix it!
And then his mom pops up to call her a dog again.
I can totally see this. She’d make an awesome Q
Smoking and making confused Jewish-language sounds.
I was thinking along the same lines recently but there’s been another bit of Trek news that’s been bouncing around and my head put both together.
Nic Cage as Q
I propose Diane Morgan, in character as Philomena Cunk. Just cause they’re immortal doesn’t mean every Q needs to be a semi-malicious super genius. Trek needs an omnipresent goober
Now I want a spinoff with (Philomena Cunk) Q and Data. Data asks her to define things, and she does (in her own unique way, obviously).
Can call it Cunk on Data (not to be confused with an earlier series, Lieutenant Yar on Data, which shows up as a separate line item on your hotel bill)
Hey, has anyone heard of what Gary Busey is up to nowadays? Might as well go full on chaos powerhouse!
Or Jake Busey, for that matter.
I’ve long held that Jon LaJoie would make an amazing Q.
I can see that working.
The EBDB spans the space-time continuum
Totally. Would love to see him deadpan some nonsense to whichever federation captain has his focus at the time.
I’m not seeing it honestly. She does have attitude, but not in a Q sort of way, not to me. Less misanthropic and more world-weary.
You want a Q that is both smarmy and clearly doesn’t like most humans. My vote, if it’s a woman, would be Jo Brand. She fits the bill.
Not familiar with her work. After perusing her Wiki, seems I’ve got some material to go through. 66 may not be an ideal age for a potentially ongoing character, but I can’t speak with any accuracy to that effect. For another similarly aged Q, I’d say Bruce “Hail to the king, baby” Campbell.
Hey, John DeLancie played Q on Picard at 74.
Sure, but only after portraying that character for 36 years. Need some relatively “young blood” in there.
I can’t suggest too young because I’m too old to know non-relatively young blood actors. Admittedly, Natasha Lyonne is a similar age to de Lancie when he started as Q. She’s 44 and he was 39. There’s just something… a slight sliver of empathy in her I see that de Lancie didn’t have. But she’s also a good actress, so sure, she could pull it off probably. I mean I’m sure the real John de Lancie isn’t that much of a misanthrope even if he is a misanthrope.
Here’s one slightly out of left field, also British, who would work- Olivia Colman. Especially since she can hold her own in both comedy and drama, and at 50, not that much older than Lyonne. On the other hand, she’s in everything… but she does have the ability to show that misanthropic, sarcastic attitude when she wants to play it that way. She was the one part of Secret Invasion I enjoyed and that was basically her character type in it.
She’s great, if only for her Izzard “Cake or death” reference in the show!
She has always been terrific. I remember her back from before she was well-known and was mostly doing comedy like Mitchell and Webb, Look Around You and Green Wing (which also had Doctor Who’s Missy, Michelle Gomez) and even then she really stuck out. She has a great combination of “fuck all of you,” “I couldn’t care less about any of this” and “you make me laugh, I’ll kill you last” attitude that I could totally see from a Q.
Two words: Hell. Yes.
There is no way that the universe could handle this much Q-ness!?
DO IT, DO IT NOW!:-)
Yeah, that could work…
What about Olivia d’Abo? It would be interesting to see what became of Amanda Rogers
