“We have a vehicle population of about 1.1 crore as of today and the population of Bengaluru is estimated to be approximately 1.6 crore, so the vehicle-to-driver ratio is 1:1.5, which is quite high. We are ideally aiming to see fewer vehicles on the roads, which would mean increased use of public transport. There are short-term, medium, and long-term solutions. The long-term ones being the use of Metro, suburban trains, K-ride and buses,”

It not enough to create public transport alone. We will need to create better last mile connectivity infrastructure for public transport to make it attractive. This could be as simple of having pedestrian friendly footpaths, easily rent-able bikes/cycles ( a la yulu ) , reasonable fares for auto-rickshaws ( preferably electric ones as well ). This will go a long way to encourage public transport. It makes no sense to travel 40 kms for 50 rupees and then have to pay 200 for the last 3 kms for auto-rickshaws.
