I am still having trouble deciding who really was the better magician. Perhaps the Nolan brothers are the answer.

The Prestige is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.

Concur. I had to watch it for a college course years ago and was absolutely blown away. One of my all time favorites.

Yeah he really is. I hadn’t realised what a good actor he is until I saw this.

Now go back and watch it again just to see how many details and clues your missed the first time.

It’s a stunning movie. Now you can go on and watch The illusionist :) It’s at the same level of mystery and atmosphere is fantastic.

Yea when this came out, not too many saw it. But it was awesome to be at a party or something and find someone else who had seen because you were almost certainly going to vibe out with each other over how awesome it was and what you thought about it and recounting which scenes happened when and how the film links them all together.

Apart from all the magician stuff and the core plot, I think an easy to miss aspect of the film is just how much it seems Chris/Jonathan had learnt from Memento and were keen to deploy in an even better more cohesive and dramatic way. I still think it’s astounding the way the various threads of the film are not only told to the audience but told with respect to what the characters are learning at the same time.

Which of course strongly links with, what I think the film is in many ways about, namely the connection between magic and film making or story telling. How many “prestiges” are in “The Prestige” … were we watching closely?

I’ll have to add that to my watch list. I hadn’t heard of the illusionist until now thanks!

Sadly for me, it’s a one time watch movie cause I already know the plot. Wish my brain got reset function 😂

I’m not a big movie rewatcher myself, but this is one of those movies to watch again because you know the plot. It’s extremely well crafted, and there are plenty of significant scenes with hidden meaning or foreshadowing to catch on the second watch if you keep your eyes open.

Absolutely. Trying to catch all the different ways the movie tells you everything before anything is revealed is fun.

My favorite is the little kid that cries because he killed the birds brother.

This and The Sixth Sense are among the few movies that are better on rewatch because you know the twist but the characters don’t.

It really rewards rewatching IMO. You can appreciate the huge amounts of foreshadowing. The movie tells you exactly what’s going on right from the beginning. But you’re not really looking, because you want to be fooled.

It’s amazing, like every other Chris Nolan movie. His movies are so captivating that you just get drawn into the pictures.

who really was the better magician

John Cutter. Angier and Borden have good gimmicks, but they don’t understand magic in the way Cutter does.

      I didn’t think about Cutter. That’s a good answer.
