Anyone use this website or their App to find places to eat? The reviews have been helpful especially while traveling. I’d love to discover a FOSS project similar to this.

Yeah that’s a good point. I’ve gotten excited only to notice the positive reviews are 5+ year old.

My wife is celiac, I use it all the time to find places while we’re out and around. Like the ability to filter on places with dedicated gluten free kitchens, not just a menu item. Cross contamination is a serious issue.

My wife is also celiac and sensitive to cross contamination. Wish there were more dedicated gf kitchens but I like how the reviewers can indicate if they’re celiac.

I’ve used it before, but I haven’t eaten out in a long time so haven’t had cause to bother. Not familiar with any FOSS alternatives. Note I’m not a celiac, but I have to avoid wheat on account of a wheat allergy and gf pretty much covers that with few exceptions.

From my experience it is lacking info in many places. I usually go on Yelp and search “gluten” or “gluten free” but that’s not foolproof either. I’ve seen false positives if a review mentions no gf options, and false negatives when gf isn’t mentioned in the metadata even if the menu has gf options.

I know this is an old thread, but I have celiac, and I used it just a week ago when I was in Winnipeg. It helped me find places that were celiac friendly. I felt the reviews gave some very insightful information, because often an establishment will have options labelled gluten free that are in fact not safe for us to eat. I typically don’t go out to eat in my hometown at all since even so-called “gluten free” dishes are usually cross-contaminated. (The reviews of restaurants here seemed to agree with me on this.)

I agree it would be nice to find a FOSS project like this, and such a project would make me want to contribute more.
