That’s right yes, after we pay for his fucking hat day he gets a pay rise while we get a cost of living crisis and strikes across the board to get a few pennies.

Fuck the Royal family, take it all off them in my view, don’t let them keep a penny it’s all stolen. They can work in fucking Aldi like normal people.

Long long ago, some dead people got other dead people to kill people who are now dead. Obviously, This means this man gets a bunch of cash and owns a bunch of stuff.

      Oh but the tourism!

This is the Britain we all dream of… isolated and desperate, wheeling out archaic practices and dressing in silly hats in the hope that foreigners might think it all hilarious enough to throw us a few coins.

It’s the Britain William Rees-Mogg (Jacob’s dad) dreamed of, back when he was writing books like “The Individual Sovereign” and “(The Best Time to Buy is when there is) Blood in the Streets”

Are you really arguing that a 12 year old video justifies a near 50% increase in their income today??

Firstly, they’re hardly a cornerstone. There’s more than just one reason to go on holiday around the UK. People could still go to Buckingham palace. The biggest scroungers in the country just wouldn’t live there on taxpayer money anymore.

Secondly, tourism is hardly the “critical” part of our economy. The finance industry is critical, as if we lost that we’d be genuinely fucked. But tourism? No. It’s more beneficial for seaside towns, which don’t exactly have the royals as an attraction. But if tourism in London, the wealthiest of all the cities in the UK, of all place, slows down a bit (which it wouldn’t - people still go to France after all) then that would be a blip compared to other parts of the economy.

That argument holds no water. Germany and France have bigger tourism industries than Britain. Neither of them have a royal family costing them a fortune.

Meanwhile, the government can only offer a poultry paltry 6% pay increase to junior doctors.

A lot of people take for granted that they’re paid in chickens instead of a more liquid form of recompense. That’s problematic too.

I was under the impression it was ducks, due to a typo in a bill proposing payment in USD.

Also note that the civil service / government departments and arms length bodies (like Kew Gardens, British Library, British Museum, Research Councils, met office, etc) do not have independent pay review bodies and bargin individually for thier pay, has not been mentioned in this. Given this government it is highly likely that it will not, and the civil service will still be at 2009 pay for alot more work. We have not forgotten the being essential for covid ansld then trying to sack 20% of us while cutting severance packages (currently resolved by recent strike action).
