This remake is trying to replace the original. Yes, you can buy literally the worst version of the original with the HD ports, or you can pirate the game or buy used copies for prices that I would call theft, but Konami and Bloober are purporting that the remake, for all intents and purposes, is designed to replace the original.

Right. For a lot of people, it will be their first time playing Silent Hill 2. The remake will be what they think of the game. There’s so much riding on this. SH2 is a cult classic and to be honest, I think it will be impossible to meet expectations.

Its not impossible to meet expectations. The problem is all these new people coming in wanting to add their own mark to the game. I don’t want any of that. I would prefer the Metroid Prime Remastered treatment, but because Konami lost the final version of the SH2 source code, we cannot have that. We have to get a remake.

And fine, if the new people want to add their own mark, I am happy to try that out as a separate mode. But try to make a very faithful recreation 1:1 first. This way the original can be preserved in as close to possible its original way with improved graphics, lighting, fidelity, and minor QoL changes such as bugfixes or faster load times.

I wish the game.was more faithful to the original, and that Bloober wasn’t behind it. As it stands, it will not hold a candle to the original, where it easily could have if they did it properly.
