I believe it was Michael Caine or Jack Lemmon who stated that comedy’s harder to execute than drama. And it makes sense, seeing how there’s so much to add into it. The script matters, but so does timing and delivery, and if you mess those up then the joke falls flat. Recently, I think Ryan Gosling’s performance as Ken in Barbie is a masterpiece of a comedic performance, he just does a great job on the delivery and giving the blank-eyed stare of Ken and perfectly illustrating his dimwitted yet kind-hearted and charming personality. I’d say his performance is only second to my personal favorite, which is Kevin Klein as Otto in A Fish Called Wanda. He’s putting his 100% into the role, with every facial expression and line delivery, and it’s truly glorious. So what’s your personal favorite comedic performance?
