Just reading my feed it appears that Kbin social is getting porn spammed by some 4chan site. Anyone else seeing this?
Yep - I posted about it here about an hour ago. From what other users are describing on that thread, it looks like a coordinated porn bot phishing attack from several domains, that then uses multiple redirects which potentially leads them to load websites in the background that could infect your system. Info on the links thanks to @DarkThoughts who risked it all in the name of science.
Just block the !random community, done.
I’ll be honest, why does anyone even go on the random channel? It was like the first thing I blocked when joining Kbin. It’s just spam and memes.
@Andjhostet The microblog section of the /m/Random magazine is where anything without a hashtag gets filtered into.
Kbin handles Mastodon data kinda oddly. Basically, each Magazine on Kbin doubles as a hashtag filter for Mastodon posts. So /m/Tech will show any Mastodon posts with the #tech hashtag in it. And if you post to the /m/Tech microblog section from Kbin, that will basically add a “hidden” #tech hashtag to your Mastodon post (so I believe it’ll still show up for Mastodon users who search for the #tech hashtag, since it’s in the metadata of the post).
This basically makes /m/Random’s microblog section the “Global” Mastodon feed for our instance. Because of that, it’s basically everything all dumped into one place. Including the porn.
@Chozo Thank you for taking the time to write out this explanation. I didn’t realize how it actually works.
@gentleman Of course! The Kbin UI for Mastodon definitely isn’t super intuitive yet. Hopefully that process will improve a bit once some of the upcoming Kbin updates get released.
I am seeing it a lot on my feed on lemmy.one. Just blocked the Random magazine which is where most of it seems to be coming from.
