I’m currently holding off on buying it because it’s the kind of game that will eat up my life in a way I just don’t have time for right now, and I figure the price will drop or it’ll go on a better sale than it has been on before by the time I have time to play.

Also worth mentioning spoiler formatting:

for both Kbin and Lemmy folks, though if you are on an app there is a chance it won’t display properly for you as some Lemmy apps don’t implement this.

I’ve beaten it repeatedly over the year.

Single player and multiplayer. I’ve played the good guy, I’ve played the bad guy. I’ve done variations. I try to make sure that no two runs are alike. I make sure to try to switch it up as much as I can.

Personally looking forward to the next big patch because I have some mod ideas that I want to try to make.

Sad to report I haven’t beaten it and got burnt out from it.

You see I got the game when it released and there were a lot if strange bugs for the playthrough I wanted to do. And I had to be constantly paranoid about missing or breaking story flags. An entire boss fight was just missing on my save and I had to mess with the memory with Cheat Engine to manually activate it (still kinda proud I managed that). I lost steam in the final act of the game.

That and some other bad experiences not related to the game itself has soured my feelings towards it. It’s a great story but a nightmarishly coded game. I wish I could wipe my memory and play it from scratch as it is now.

I’ll likely go back and finish it at some point, but then Elden Ring got an expansion and I’m in a new playthrough for that.

Second play through, first was on tactician, now finishing on honor mode.

    spoiler

Its good, but it feels lacking in many ways. The writing is very “on the nose” and it feels like the main story is a bit of a drag that I’m just not invested in. I think I would have preferred something much more open, and maybe more impossible to do in one play through. I really think it could have been improved with a bit more compartmentalization on just how “much” of the story or world you actually get to see in a given play through. Because of the way the story is built into the play, its basically impossible to not do all or most of it. And sure, you can get some variation, but its just not a drastically different story. The choices feel glued on.

Also, the world is very “empty”. Like, it just doesn’t feel like a living world. Once you clear an area… thats it. There is no random spawns. Its just empty.

There is no day night cycle (which like, with Asterion… wouldn’t it be cool if he got bonus powers at night but was weak during the day?), and very limited environmental effects.

The combat is fun, but you dont go past level 12? Like what the hell? What about my 8 more levels?

Its a great game. Don’t get me wrong, I really like it. But it feels very partial and for a supposedly open world game, its very on rails. You really don’t actually have much for options for how to play it differently and get to a meaningfully different ending.

If you’ve played The Witcher 3, that is a game where you can get totally lost in the world, and just… be a witcher. The world is so complete and “alive”. And there are so many different ways to go through the game. The BG3 world feels empty and partial, and the idea that there are multiple ways to play the game feels somewhat superficial.

at 1/4-1/3 the cost, The Witcher is much much more game in a more complete world that genuinely feels live. However, I prefer the combat style and system of BG3. I’m hoping that some fun mods come out that improve somethings.

That was my plan, but my brother and I share our Xbox games (you can share digital copies with one other person). Since it magically appeared in my inbox, I gave it a go.

Absolutely fantastic game. But it’s very long, and that’s assuming you don’t read all of the lore. The learning curve is little high, nothing crazy, but I won’t be getting any noobies to try it. Lastly, I hate searching every stupid crate, body, etc. but I’m sure I’ll miss out if I don’t. Oh, and absolutely fuck that neural network “puzzle” and it’s clunky controls.

Otherwise, decent plot, lots of unique battles, good voice acting, many, many different tactics. My favorite game in a while. So I’m taking an hour or two here and there, and switching it up with other games when I lose patience, and I look up the answer if I don’t feel like searching on a quest, to save my sanity.

Have fun when you find a good sale.

I’ve played through it four times. Find new things each time. It’s fantastic.

Currently doing a bard run for all the unique dialog choices.
