While you’re right that he holds a lot of popularity among his devout followers, he doesn’t hold the same sway over the rest of the party. Hence the “Never Trumpers” among republicans. It just so happens that after 9 years even the GOP is tired of his erratic unpredictable behavior and can see the sinking ship for what it is.
