These are the changes coming in the next build. I anticipate it will be released by tomorrow morning.
Multiple Accounts
I probably should have done this before and saved myself the time, but I was a bit naieve in how many people would find this at least very important or at most necessary for a good experience. Regardless, it will be done tonight. Instead of being able to select a community by pressing the header in the Feed index screen, you’ll have a dropdown where you can select one of the accounts that you have added.
Community List
This will give you a list of all the communities that are available. This is a work in progress and I’m looking at ways to populate this data based off not just what the instance sends through the API but also through other means (there’s a few good sites that offer really good info on communities)
Posting
Posting will be available tomorrow. Everything should be functional at a minimum, if I have the time tonight I will also add in the various buttons for easy insertion of some basic markdown.
I’m thinking about using Imgur right now for image hosting. If you guys have any objections to that, let me know and I’ll reconsider. The main reason I want to go that route is to help instances out a bit by not continuing to load their servers with data. While images themselves probably are not the bottleneck that we are experiencing, the data usage does add up for them, and I’m not really sure what (if any) caching policies are currently being used.
Comments
Same as above. There should be buttons for markdown. I also will add (if I find the time) some context (i.e. you can see the message you are replying to under where you type). Bit hard to get right due to various screen sizes, but i’ll manage.
Other filters
Who wants to fill up my bussy? 🤤
I do not, and you might not want to either. So you can hide that content now.
- NSFW Blur
- NSFW Filtering (remove the content entirely from your feed)
- Block Instances
NSFW settings will NOT affect your Lemmy account settings. Whether you select to only blur or to completely filter out NSFW content, you will still be able to see it in the Lemmy web app. These settings will affect all of your accounts that you use within the app.
Blocking instances is mainly a necessity since there’s nothing stopping people from not posting their NSFW content without the proper tag, and there’s a lack of care or lack of moderators on certain instances (think lemmynsfw) and you’ll end up with some posts getting through because of that. While you can already block a community now, that alone might not be enough. Note that these instance blocks will NOT affect your experience in the Lemmy web app, since this is not something that is done serverside but within the app.
Other fixes
- You can now swipe right to leave the web view after clicking a link
- Some more markdown fixes (a few things were not getting rendered properly)
- Another attempt to get the issue with not being able to upvote posts after viewing them. This has been ridiculous to debug as I can NOT reproduce it in a simulator or on device with development version. Alas, I think I have the solution.
- Save images
- Share images
Feedback
Please continue to submit feedback. I do review the feedback you provide on TestFlight, but unfortunately I cannot respond there. Just please know that you’re not unheard!
If you want to go into more detail about an issue, please message me on Discord or submit an issue on GitHub. Links are in the sidebar.
Happy scrolling!
Wow! You rock!
This is awesome. Thanks so much for the effort you are putting into this!
Will we be able to apply the nsfw blur to an instance instead of just blocking them?
Thanks for everything you’re doing! This app is very promising
