I am looking for first person shooter type games (that preferably have an active multi player base) for PS5. My preference is for more type RPG games with a lot of permanent upgrades for the weapon, character, skill, etc. The more focused on upgrade and specialization the better.

Excluding suggestions COD, Borderlands and Xdefiant.

    Fallout 4 and Fallout 76.

    Killzone Shadowfall.

    Destiny and Destiny 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 (has a robust and immersive 1st person setting that needs to be manually enabled in the settings menu).

    GTA 5 (same as RDR2).

I should have excluded GTA. But I basically forgot about Red Dead, I will definitely have to try that.

Can you tell me what upgrade feature killzone has or is like?

I can’t because it lacks that feature, actually. Apologies.

Constant upgrades are tricky, since that’s basically content, which most games try to give out slowly to keep you enticed for more. Competitive games won’t give much, so that you won’t outclass other players on an even field.

The Division (2) is a pretty decent one; up until max level you’re just letting numbers go up, and then there’s some specialized builds you can put together that prioritize things like forcing enemy attention, activating abilities more frequently, or triggering combo effects on weapons.

Helldivers 2 has a lot of weapons and different support abilities to unlock.

Have not played it, but Destiny 2 may fit with what you’re looking for.

I think the FarCry games meet all of your requirements (which means the Avatar game by Ubisoft probably would too)?

The Doom games also have an upgrade system (not sure if any released on PS5).
