This is a bit political but i feel this should be looked at. Whatever it’s on on the Lemmy instance or the Mastodon instances.

My main concern is about the concept of Embrase Extend Extinguish they could use.

    I think it’s more open than you realize. I need to look into this further, but there’s no reason to assume, even a bit, than anything posted here or elsewhere on the Fediverse is private. It’s not supposed to be, nor was it designed to be. Also, if meta simply wanted that data, they’d setup instances and just keep quiet about it, and start following accounts across the Fediverse.

      Sure but I reiterate, why make it easy for them? What has Meta/Facebook/whatever done to deserve easy, immediate access to my data when I’m not using their services?

      Over on the beehaw thread about this very subject, folks have brought up that they’re ostensibly (in part) responsible for the ongoing genocide in Myanmar because they pushed anti-muslim posts through their algorithms without having any moderators that spoke the language to understand what was being boosted until after it had reached beyond a critical threshold.

      They don’t deserve a moment of our time, effort, or support.
